Deeply rooted in our rich heritage and focused on shaping the future, the ZEISS Brand Identity guides us to create meaningful experiences and make the brand tangible to our employees, partners, customers, and society at large. It consists of three layers:

The Brand Essence summarizes our purpose and our identity in one statement, a claim and a promise to the world: Seeing beyond – enabling you to realize ambitions.
The Brand Narrative is our story of Seeing beyond and makes our Brand Essence tangible and emotionally relatable, helping us to create clarity, pride, and emotional bonds across all markets and audiences.
At its heart, it talks about a mindset that looks beyond the expected – to think further, reveal what is hidden, and unlock greater potential in others. It’s not just about what we see, but about what that vision makes possible.
These enduring strengths have always enabled our brand to deliver on its promise. They empower us to innovate with impact, deliver with consistency, and build relationships that create lasting value.
Innovation: We look closer, further, and deeper to reveal what is hidden and shape what lies ahead. We do not create innovations to impress, we create them to make a difference.
Reliability: Progress takes more than technology. It takes conviction and persistence. As a foundation-owned company, we stand for responsibility, quality, and reliability, and we honor our commitments as a trusted partner.
Customer focus: We start by understanding what matters most to our customers. By seeing clearly what counts in research, industry, medicine, and daily life, we create solutions that truly enable their success.
Our Brand Attributes are the lasting traits that define who we are – the five words that capture the essence of how ZEISS shows up in the world.
They become tangible through our Brand Experience Principles – the way we put these traits into action.
No, the evolution goes beyond visuals. It’s about how we express and live the ZEISS Brand – through tone of voice, behaviors, and consistent delivery across all touchpoints. Visual updates are just one part of a broader Brand Evolution.
Three things:
Tangible, coherent Brand Identity
Stronger focus on experience through the five Brand Experience Principles
New tools and guidelines to make application easier in daily work
The Brand Attributes are the enduring traits that define ZEISS at its core: Open, Leading, Precise, Inspiring, Responsible. They describe how we want people to perceive us – the “what.” These attributes come to life through the Brand Experience Principles.
The Brand Experience Principles take those attributes one step further by showing how they come to life in practice. They guide our behavior, tone of voice, design decisions, and user experiences – the “how.”
For example: Precise as an attribute means “we are meticulous, thoughtful, and relentless in our standards.” As a Brand Experience Principle, it translates into clear layouts, frictionless interfaces, or concise, accurate copywriting.
All five (Open, Leading, Precise, Inspiring, Responsible) Brand Experience Principles should always be considered. In practice, some are more relevant than others depending on the context. For example, a campaign asset may emphasize Open, Inspiring, and Leading, while an instruction manual prioritizes Precise and Responsible.
Not mandatory word-for-word, but it should inform the thinking behind every briefing. The narrative is our “red thread,” helping to keep messaging consistent, clear, and emotionally engaging across all markets. More details will be available on the learning platform CurioZ and in the live sessions. Both employees and our external partners listed in the ZEISS Agency Finder will be notified as soon as the learning journey is live on CurioZ.
Think of them as a filter: Does the post feel approachable (Open)? Does it show ZEISS as premium and visionary (Leading)? Is the language accurate and clear (Precise)? Does it spark curiosity (Inspiring)? Is it authentic and respectful (Responsible)? You won’t always emphasize all five Brand Experience Principles equally, but they should guide the tone, imagery, and design choices.
